1.0Ants nest and poor description of a balcony
Am besten gefallenThe only real positive was the hotel's good location
VerbesserungswürdigVery disappointing four-night stay. Unfortunately, our experience at Catalonia Porto was far below expectations. We raised with staff, several times about ants in the bathroom, including what appeared to be a nest in the shower area. Although housekeeping sprayed something around the shower, they simply rinsed it away afterwards and even used our towels to mop up, rather than addressing the root cause of the problem. The hotel clearly has a wider issue with ants, as they were also visible across the bar terrace throughout our stay. The room itself was nicely decorated, but we paid extra for a balcony and felt misled by what was provided. Rather than a usable balcony, it was little more than a narrow ledge with railings, that was also crawling with ants! What was most disappointing was the response from reception. Despite reporting the problem, staff seemed largely unconcerned and offered no meaningful solution. It is not what you expect when you're repeatedly cleaning up both live and dead ants in your bathroom during a holiday. Since checking out, I have been in contact with the hotel regarding these concerns. They advised that they took the matter seriously but were unable to see any ants themselves, I’ll let you decide from the photo. They also explained that the balcony was a "Portuguese balcony". While I appreciate the response, neither explanation changes the reality of our experience or the fact that we encountered ants every day of our stay. Had the nature of the balcony been made clearer when booking, we would not have chosen to pay extra for it. Overall, because of the persistent ant problem, the misleading balcony description, and the lack of any effective resolution, we would choose to stay elsewhere on our next visit to Porto.
