Liked mostIf you want to stay within Old Cairo, this is the place. Beatiful property and excellent staff. Hostesses Haviva and the two Maryams were great, and the kitchen staff was outstanding.

Could improveシャワーのお湯の出し方がわからなかった。

Threatened and Intimidated at the Hotel

Could improveExtremely Unsafe and Distressing Experience — Especially for Solo Female Travellers I had an extremely distressing experience at Gamaleya Boutique Hotel. The most serious issue was being kept inside the hotel for over two hours with my friend while being repeatedly threatened with a police report if I refused to sign a document prepared by the hotel manager’s lawyer. The document concerned compensation for clothes damaged by the hotel’s laundry service—an issue that could have been resolved professionally. A tourism police assistant, who was not an actual police officer, was brought in, and we were made to feel as though he represented the full authority of the police. The situation was extremely intimidating. The hotel owner/manager, Ibrahim Qassisia, repeatedly insulted and threatened me. He told me, “You’re Egyptian, I will have you imprisoned,” and was recorded saying, “I am racist.” I have recordings documenting parts of the incident. His lawyer attempted to take my phone while I was recording, and I was scratched on my right hand during the confrontation. I was also falsely accused of using drugs when I was actually taking a magnesium supplement. Several staff members surrounded me and my friend while we were pressured to sign the document under threats of being taken to a police station. As a North African woman, I did not feel safe or respected. The manager’s alleged racist remarks and treatment of us were deeply disturbing. This was far more than a laundry dispute. The intimidation, threats, verbal abuse and physical confrontation left me feeling unsafe. I strongly urge travellers, especially solo female travellers and people of African or Arab backgrounds, to exercise extreme caution when considering this hotel.
