Could improveI recently stayed at the St. Regis Katara during 16-18/07/2026 and, unfortunately, my experience did not reflect the standards expected from a luxury hotel. The stay started with a disappointing check-in experience. The reception staff were neither professional nor flexible in handling guest requests, and the welcome lacked the warmth and hospitality that a hotel of this caliber should provide. The room itself was also disappointing. It had an unpleasant odor upon arrival, and there was noticeable dust, which gave the impression that housekeeping and cleanliness were below the standard expected from a five-star property. The most surprising part of my stay occurred when a hotel staff member came to my room and asked me to hand over my mubkhar (incense burner), explaining that it was not permitted in the hotel. I have traveled extensively and stayed in many luxury hotels across Europe, and this was the first time I was told that my luggage had been scanned and that I needed to surrender a personal item after check-in. The way this was handled felt intrusive and unprofessional. What made the situation even more confusing was that the same staff member later told me that, because I was attending a wedding, the hotel could provide charcoal for my oud and bukhoor. This is a clear contradiction. If burning oud and bukhoor is permitted during hotel events, why is a personal mubkhar prohibited? The policy was inconsistent, and no reasonable explanation was provided. I completely respect hotel safety policies and understand the need for regulations. However, those policies should be communicated clearly, enforced consistently, and handled with respect for guests' privacy and comfort. Overall, the combination of the unprofessional check-in, the dusty and unpleasant-smelling room, and the contradictory handling of the mubkhar left me very disappointed. I expected a much higher level of service and attention to detail from the St. Regis Katara.
