A beautiful environment, with fantastic staff, in which to discover Porto

Liked mostThe Torel Palace is indeed exceptional. The bedrooms and all the communal areas are beautifully and tastefully decorated. The location is convenient for central Porto (Baixa) and also for getting to Ribeiro. The breakfast was excellent. But the best thing about it is the staff. They are so welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. They make you feel truly special.

Could improveThe only flaws in our stay were that the first room we stayed in (the apartment called Maria Teresa Horta) was not very dark, and both of us find it difficult to sleep in that kind of environment. It's also a very strangely designed apartment: the bedroom includes an enormous kitchen area, but it contained no cooking equipment and hardly any crockery. We didn't want to cook there, but it seemed like a waste of space, especially as the bathroom is very small and rather cramped. Also the only wardrobe was in the upstairs, sofa-bed area, not in the main bedroom. Personally I would have suggested reducing the kitchen area and making the bathroom much bigger, or even including two small bathrooms, since the apartment sleeps four. The second apartment we stayed in (No. 33) was much better designed and also darker and quieter, although, again, it has only one bathroom despite sleeping four people. My only reservation about apartment 33 was that some of the kitchen equipment started flashing in the night, rather like disco strobe lights, which woke me up (I was sleeping on the sofa bed, which, in No. 33, is in the living/kitchen area). I would recommend unplugging all equipment before going to bed on the sofa bed!
